The Transfer Deadline Day in the Premier League was moving along nicely with some deals here and there, but then one piece of news completely changed this Monday.
Pep Guardiola, the legendary Barcelona player and coach, will join Manchester City next season, the club announced today. The Spaniard, in his third season at Bayern Munich, will be replaced by Carlo Ancelotti in Germany, and will take over for Manuel Pellegrini at The Citizens.
Man City's website released the following statement:
"Manchester City can confirm that in recent weeks it has commented and finalized contractual negotiations with Pep Guardiola to become MCFC Head coach for the 16/17 EPL season onwards. The contract is for three years. These negotiations were a re-commencement of discussions that were curtailed in 2012.
Out of respect for Manuel Pellegrini and the players, the Club wishes to make its decision public to remove the unnecessary burden of speculation. Manuel Pellegrini, who is fully supportive of the decision to make this communication is entirely focused on achieving his targets for the season ahead of retaining the respect and commitment of all involved with the leadership of the Club."
Today's news finally confirms the never-ending rumors that the world's best football coach would join England at the end of his tenure with Bayern. Pep still has six months to leave the Bavarians in the best possible way. He has won the Bundesliga twice and is well on his way to a third straight title. The only title he hasn't won is the UEFA Champions League, and he'll certainly want to go out with that trophy.
Get ready, Premier League. Pep is coming.
