Oh, wow.
There is an interesting story being told today at Mundo Deportivo regarding Toni Kroos.
You know he is now a Real Madrid player, but the Catalan newspaper has a report that says Barça and the 24-year-old midfielder came close to a deal three times, before the German finally accepted Madrid's offer. It was reported two months ago that Barcelona had made a better offer than Real, and today comes the revelation that the deal was very close, but it was in fact a Barça official that pressed everybody else and changed their minds on Kroos.
From MD's website:
"There were conversations happening in Barcelona between the agent and the player himself, and it was made clear that Barça had a strong interest in him, and Kroos had already said yes.
The 24-year-old German was convinced that he would wear the Blaugrana kit, until a higher-up in the organization vetoed the signing. This Barça official was so vehemently against the deal that he forced everybody else to give up on the transfer. He used very convincing arguments and his position was so strong that it ended up with everyone coming to an agreement to not move on with the talks".

The article goes on to say that Ivan Rakitic was the number one choice, and Barça would not sign Kroos because they had chosen the Croatian to replace Xavi and there was no other plan.
So he's now at Madrid. Only time will tell if Barça's choice of Rakitic over him was the right one. But the fact is, if the report is accurate: Kroos wanted Barcelona. It was Barça that didn't want him.
