Again the Chilean had to make two saves, none better than the one in the 71st minute when he was able to prevent the bad-angle free kick from crossing the goal-line with the help of the goalpost. Bravo once again looked calm at collecting high crosses sent into the penalty area. | |

Well, just about all of those performances were better than what Douglas produced on his Barcelona debut. Debuts are never easy, but they should really be better than this, however, it is unfair to fully judge him especially considering that his teammates were also pretty darn bad themselves. But back to Douglas. He often looked clumsy on the ball, some of his outlet passes weren’t even in the same zip code as the intended recipient, his decision making was too slow, and that "tackle" on Luis Alberto that earned him a yellow card was just terrible. That being said, he did make a couple good tackles as well, but all in all it wasn’t a performance to be proud of. | |

Like Bartra he too was positionally very sound, making some important plays that helped Barcelona extend their streak of not allowing a goal. Pique, however, was not as consistent as his defensive partner was as he at times rushed clearances and at times struggled under pressure, especially in the second half. Pique also picked up a silly yellow card for his involvement in the Weligton incident late in the game. | |

Bartra was constantly in the perfect position to make the necessary play. As a result of his positioning and anticipation skills he led the team in interceptions and clearances while finishing second in tackles and aerial duels won. Bartra’s strong air game also came into play in the opposing penalty area where the young center-back came close to scoring the opening goal from a corner kick near the one-hour mark. | |

From the opening minute he was always involved, both on offense and on defense. His pressure on Nordin Amrabat early in the game prevented an easy chance for the Moroccan. Alba worked hard in attack in an attempt to help out in breaking down the defense and twice his crosses created a chance for Messi in the first half, but he will surely want another chance at the second one as had it been five inches closer to Messi, Barcelona would’ve surely been celebrating a win after the final whistle. | |

With the rest of the team not really forcing the issue, responsibility should have fallen on Busquets to recycle the ball a little quicker to inspire something extra from his teammates, but he failed to do that and the onus fell on Gerard Piqué instead. However, it was still a solid performance and certainly Busquets can’t be blamed for all of Barça’s offensive woes. | |

Quite literally, I cannot think of another example which perhaps accentuates the disappointment I’m feeling after this display. His passing was poor as well, but his dribbling was also horrific and led to many a turnover in the middle third. Usually, Iniesta can keep the opposition guessing, but on this night, he was an open book and Malaga had no trouble reading his every move. | |

His passing was uncharacteristically inaccurate, although he does earn back a point or so with his work ethic. However, when one of your highlights is chasing down a defender in the 87th minute, you probably haven’t done enough in the rest of the game. | |

Still by far the hardest worker out of Barca's front line but that simply is not enough any longer. Neymar's rating was so low because people expect more from him, the same cannot be said of Pedro any more. That said, there were a couple of signs to show how Pedro can contribute more to Barca and that's via link up play. In one move, Messi does well to find Pedro in a bit of space, who in turn slides a neat pass to the overlapping Alba. Nothing came of it,obviously, but let's hope Pedro can work on that aspect of his game more. | |

He had a couple of half chances, especially a cross from the left where Leo attempted to chest the ball towards goal. However, like Luis Enrique said, Malaga did a great job of keeping Messi quiet and prevented the ball from getting to him in dangerous areas of the pitch. It is,however, evident that Messi is currently in great shape, physically and mentally. The burst of acceleration on the ball and the ability to help inject some urgency from midfield was present during the 90 minutes but just not enough of either, in this particular match. | |

The partnership between Bartra and Piqué for example looks impressive and keeps getting better. Even individually, Piqué looked tremendous and his attitude seemed exactly where it should be and needs to be, while Bravo in the Barça goal continues to look every inch a Barça number one. However, there were a lot of negatives too. How much can we attribute down to the pitch? How about the schedule? How much to our own performance? Whatever the issues, Lucho needs to address them before they crop up again. | |

Arron says: 5.0 Perhaps like Munir and the rest of the team, Enrique too looked out of his depth at times in this match. His initial selection was odd; Douglas didn’t fit in too well while starting both Pedro and Neymar ensured that we didn’t have many options off the bench. Indeed, his substitutions for the first time were off, both in terms of personnel and timing. I’m willing to chalk it up as a bad day at the office, but as mentioned previously, there are issues that need to be addressed. | |
