The defender is still struggling with injury
Barcelona right-back Sergino Dest is expected to sit out Sunday’s trip to Elche as he continues to recover from a thigh injury.
The USMNT star missed Thursday’s trip to Cornella in the Copa del Rey because of the problem and is not expected to be fit for Barca’s next game, according to AS.
Dest did not take part in training on Friday and it seems unlikely he will be fit for Sunday’s match. If he does miss out then Oscar Mingueza will continue on the right of the defense.
Yet Barca could see their defensive options boosted next week. Ronald Koeman has said that Sergi Roberto is close to a comeback and could rejoin group training next week.
It’s not clear yet if Dest or Roberto will be in contention to face Rayo Vallecano in the Copa del Rey next week, but the duo may certainly be available for the visit of Athletic on January 31.
