What would represent success for Barca in this season’s Champions League?

All to play for in Europe’s top competition

After the most tumultuous of seasons in La Liga, Barcelona’s focus now turns solely to the Champions League.

With no other distractions, Quique Setien’s side will be hoping to lift the trophy at the Estadio da Luz a few weeks from now.

Whether they’re able to do so is a moot point at present, but it’s clearly in everyone’s best interests for them to give it their best shot.

So what would success in the Champions League look like for Barcelona?

Well, clearly winning the trophy outright would be a best case scenario, but given how poorly 2019/20 has gone for them at times, would another semi-final berth be acceptable?

If the application and direction are spot on and the team are just beaten by a better side, should Barcelona fans not be judging their team too harshly?

After all, it does appear that the squad is in a state of transition at present.

As Josep Maria Bartomeu enters the final year of his presidency, it’s a fair bet that he’ll want to try and go out with a bang, meaning that Arthur Melo might not be the only big name leaving this summer.

However, any more sales of that ilk will leave Barcelona incredibly thin on the ground heading into the 2020/21 campaign.

In any event, with Ousmane Dembele on the verge of a playing return, Barca might even have an ace up their sleeve in the form of the Frenchman.

He hasn’t played for the best part of the year and will surely be champing at the bit to prove his doubters wrong. In fact, his pace and control represent a real asset for Barca at this late stage of the season.

If Antoine Griezmann is able to get himself fit too, then the front line that Quique Setien will have at his disposal will be as good as any other left in the competition, and it’s goals that win games.

As long as Setien gets the make up of the team correct, and they are willing to go to war for him, they’re perfectly able to beat any of the teams found in their side of the draw.

Of course, the likes of Man City, Bayern, Real Madrid and Juventus will have something to say about that, but all of those European giants write Barca off at their peril.

The Catalans may be battered and bruised, but they’re not down and out just yet.

Could not winning a major championship ever be considered as good enough - depending on the circumstances?

How far do you expect Barca to go?
