Barcelona 4-0 Depor: Player Ratings

Yours and Sam’s scores from Sunday’s win.

Marc-André ter Stegen

Depor only registered three shots on target and ter Stegen was more than capable at saving them.

Sergi Roberto

With not much defensive work, Sergi Roberto was free to roam upfield and he produced a great low cross to pick out Suárez for the opening goal.

Thomas Vermaelen

Continuing to do well during Barça’s injury crisis but Madrid next week will offer a much sterner test then Depor did here.

Gerard Piqué

Maintained status quo at the back before doing a trademark Piqué burst into CF when his team were 4-0 up.

Jordi Alba

Consistley an option out wide but his delivery let him down on occasion.

Andrés Iniesta

A supreb performance from the captain as he linked defence to attack beautifully. Barça’s game was fluid and was moving through Iniesta. His presence was very much missed when he left the field in the 55th minute but with El Clásico next week, it was a wise move by Valverde.

Paulinho

Another two goals to add to his account as he once again provided something the other Barça midfielders don’t. Paulinho’s willingness to make late runs into the box has seen him be in the right place at the right time more than once this season.

Ivan Rakitić

The difference between Rakitić playing wide and centrally is staggering. This time, playing in Busquets role, he looked so much more comfortable. Making tackles and interceptions whilst also helping to link both ends of the team. The criticism of Rakitić in recent weeks has been harsh given he was playing out of position and this game showed he needs to be central to be at his best.

Paco Alcácer

Only played 22 minutes before being forced off with a muscle injury in his left leg.

Lionel Messi

Rating Messi for this game is tough as he created a lot of chances but he also missed a lot of chances. It just didn’t seem his night with him having 11 shots but failing to finding the net. Three shots collided with the post and he missed a penalty as he desperately went searching for the goal. In terms of playmaking, he was very good.

Luis Suárez

After an awful start to the season, Suárez seems to be hitting form at exactly the right time. With the Clásico looming next weekend, Suárez added another two goals to his account. The thing that was most impressive was he was making the right runs again and unlike earlier in the season, he was timing them well also. Towards the end of the game it could be said he was a little too selfless in his search to get Messi a goal and he should have been taking home a match ball.

Andre Gomes

Had a few touches during his second half appearance but didn’t massively impact the game.

Aleix Vidal

Did well in a position he hasn’t played a lot in this season. Was unlucky not to open the scoring.

You say: 7

Lucas Digne

Only played 10 minutes.

Ernesto Valverde

Won the game as early as possible and rotated wisely with the Clásico in mind.

The Team

A dominant performance that could have been a lot more than just 4-0.
