Bouncing back from last weekend's defeat was always going to be a priority for Luis Enrique and his FC Barcelona side, although the manner in which they did so on Tuesday against Manchester City was most pleasing. For the first 45 minutes, Barcelona were back to their absolute best, dominating and ultimately toying with one of Europe's finest teams en route to an eventual 2-1 victory. Gone are the days when Barça struggled on their travels in Europe, at least on the basis of this performance.
A repeat would be most welcome this afternoon; turning their attentions back to La Liga, Barcelona simply have to secure a result against Granada CF if they wish to remain in the title race. Last weekend's shock defeat to Malaga CF has ensured that there is no more room for error in the remaining 14 matches of the campaign.
And in that sense, this match against Granada could be one of our toughest of the campaign. The pressure on the team to secure a result is extraordinary; while the midweek exertions against Manchester City may well have an impact on our energy levels. Likewise, we have another important match coming up in midweek: a Copa del Rey semi-final second-leg against Villarreal CF. Couple all this with Granada's deceptively impressive home form, and well, this is the very definition of a "banana skin fixture".
