La Liga: FC Barcelona 5-0 Levante UD: Player Ratings

A detailed, player-by-player breakdown of Barcelona's manita La Liga win over Levante.

Claudio Bravo
7.2

Minutes played: 90

Touches: 29

Passes: 16

Pass Accuracy: 94 %

Shots Faced: 1

Saves Made: 1

Clearances: 1

Bostjan says: 7.5

I’m not entirely sure if Bravo earned his appearance fee against Levante. Had it not been for a last minute weak shot from Jason, he wouldn’t have had anything to do the entire 90 minutes. Bravo’s passing was solid as usual, but it was highlighted by an uncharacteristically terrible ball the ended in a corner kick for Levante. Despite the lack of action Bravo maintained his concentration throughout and ready the play very well, which was brilliantly on display at the half hour mark when he left his area to clear a dangerous ball 40 yards from his goal.

Martin Montoya
7.0

Minutes played: 90

Touches: 92

Passes: 78

Pass Accuracy: 89 %

Key Passes: 0

Successful Dribbles : 1

Tackles: 5

Aerial Duels Won : 2

Clearances : 2

Fouls: 0

Interceptions: 1

Bostjan says: 8.5

I have to say that I was impressed with Montoya in this game. It didn’t start well for him as he looked nervous on the pitch, but he grew more and more confident as the game went on, and by the end he was making strong runs and was even seen alongside Suarez as the only two players in the opposing penalty area. Defensively he was as strong as always, making by far the most tackles of any player on the pitch – without making a single foul. This was the Montoya I was waiting to see this season, and if he continues to play like this it will not be long before Monty is the starting RB for Spain, ahead of Dani Carvajal once again.

Marc Bartra
8.3

Minutes played: 90

Touches: 90

Passes: 75

Pass Accuracy: 87 %

Tackles: 3

Interceptions: 2

Clearances: 6

Aerial Duels Won : 5

Bostjan says: 9.0

You really can’t ask for more from you center-back than what Bartra delivered in this one. He might have looked a little bit shaky early on, understandable considering the lack of playing time, but he soon started making plays left, right and middle. It didn’t matter where from the Levante threat came from, Bartra was there to make the play. In the 25th minute he made a brilliant block that probably saved a goal. And as if his defensive contributions weren’t enough he joined in on the attack as well, assisting on Messi’s first goal of the night.

Javier Mascherano
7.6

Minutes played: 90

Touches: 104

Passes: 98

Pass Accuracy: 95 %

Tackles: 1

Interceptions: 3

Clearances: 1

Aerial Duels Won: 0

Fouls: 0

Bostjan says: 7.5

With Bartra making plays all over the pitch, Mascherano enjoyed a surprisingly uneventful game. Still, he remained in good position throughout to make the rare play he needed to make defensively. As has been the case many times this season Mascherano was again one of the main distributors of the ball, finishing just a couple passes short of the century mark, the most of any player on the pitch, all the while maintaining a very high pass accuracy rate.

Adriano Correia
7.1

Minutes played: 90

Touches: 95

Passes: 83

Pass Accuracy: 89 %

Shots/Shots on Target: 0/0

Tackles: 3

Interceptions: 1

Clearances: 1

Key Passes : 2

Aerial Duels Won : 2

Bostjan says: 8.0

Adriano was all about the offense against Levante, he rarely had to track back, but when he had to he did. He was always available for the pass on the left side and constantly tried to find the open man in the middle, and he was successful at it. He created two scoring chances for his teammates, one in the first half for Messi, that was squandered, and one in the second for Suarez, which was successfully converted. Defensively he wasn’t as impressive, and on a different night, with a different referee, he could’ve given up a late penalty kick, for his contact with Jordi Xumetra.

Sergio Busquets
7.5

Minutes played: 90

Touches: 99

Passes: 91

Pass Accuracy: 95 %

Tackles: 2

Interceptions: 2

Shots/Shots on Target: 1/1

Clearances: 0

Aerial Duels Won: 2

Turnovers: 0

Key passes: 2

Sam says: 8.5

Busquets was really pivotal in his role against Levante. The ball seemingly always went through him and his role as the pivot of the team was highlighted. A strong defensive performance saw two tackles and two interceptions but it was really more about his offensive game. With 91 passes at 94% success rate, Busquets orchestrated Barça and enabled the likes of Messi to hurt Levante.

Xavi
7.4

Minutes played: 90

Touches: 81

Passes: 71

Pass Accuracy: 96 %

Shots/Shots on Target: 2/0

Turnovers: 2

Key Passes: 1

Aerial Duels Won : 1

Tackles: 1

Sam says: 7.0

Combined with Busquets, Xavi was the metronome of the Barça team. Keeping control of midfield meant Barça could attack without the pressure of being defensively vulnerable. As per usual, his passing was sublime. The most accurate passer on the field, Xavi painted status quo throughout. This game only goes to show that despite claims he was past his best, Xavi is still a strong part of Barça’s play.

Ivan Rakitić
7.5

Minutes played: 61

Touches: 75

Passes: 67

Pass Accuracy: 88 %

Shots/Shots on Target: 1 /0

Fouls Won: 2

Tackles: 3

Turnovers: 0

Key Passes: 2

Aerial Duels Won : 0

Sam says: 7.5

Another good game for the Croatian to get under his belt. He helped work the ball to the front three and was often seen looking for the killer ball that would cut through Levante’s defence. Without actually getting a registered assist for himself, his chipped through balls did find the likes of Pedro who would then cut it across for Messi to score. Rakitić also put in a solid defensive effort and with the game as good as won he left the field just after the hour mark.

Pedro
7.7

Minutes played: 90

Touches: 53

Passes: 41

Pass Accuracy: 90 %

Shots/Shots on Target: 3/2

Turnovers: 1

Successful Dribbles: 1

Key Passes: 2

Fouls Won: 1

Tackles: 1

Bostjan says: 8.5

Pedro likes to torment teams from the lower divisions and with Levante's form being, well, terrible, it was reasonable to expect that Pedro would have a big game. And he did. Constantly running up and down the pitch he was making plays on both ends of the pitch. The bulk of his contributions came in the attacking third though, with him twice testing Diego Marino and beautifully assisting on the second goal scored by Messi.

Lionel Messi
9.5

Minutes played: 90

Touches: 95

Passes: 70

Pass Accuracy: 71 %

Shots/Shots on Target: 9/5

Fouls Won: 2

Successful Dribbles: 6

Key Passes: 1

Turnovers: 2

Fouls: 1

Bostjan says: 10.0

I'm not even going to try to explain his brilliance, even if he could've finished the game with even more than the three goals he scored.

Neymar
8.5

Minutes played: 66

Touches: 65

Passes: 52

Pass Accuracy: 83 %

Shots/Shots on Target: 1/1

Fouls Won: 3

Key Passes: 4

Successful Dribbles: 3

Turnovers: 3

Bostjan says: 9.0

After a couple uninspiring performances, especially the one against Villarreal, Neymar was once again firing on a cylinders. He was a constant threat to score a goal, something that he accomplished with a rather fortuitous touch that he himself could not explain. Neymar also helped Messi complete his hat-trick, drawing a foul from Ivan Lopez inside the penalty area for a spot-kick.

Sergi Roberto
6.8

Minutes played: 29

Touches: 13

Passes: 11

Pass Accuracy: 82 %

Tackles : 1

Arron says: 7.0

With the three points wrapped up, the first man off the bench was little-used Sergi Roberto, who looked to capitalise on this rare La Liga opportunity. In general, Roberto performed well and didn’t make a single mistake that I can remember; however, nor did he really contribute any decisive moments in his time on the field. Adequate and nothing more.

Luis Suarez
8.4

Minutes played: 24

Touches: 9

Passes: 5

Pass Accuracy: 80 %

Shots/Shots on Target : 1/1

Arron says: 8.5

Let’s not get carried away about the goal here – while it was an absolute beauty that goal alone is not enough for his rating to rival that of Lionel Messi or Neymar. Heck, I wondered whether Suarez should even get a higher mark than Pedro, then settled comfortable in the thought that I would have handed them both an 8.5 for their contributions.

The Team8.9

Passes: 780

Pass Accuracy: 89 %

Shots/Shots on Target: 18 /10

Tackles: 19

Aerial Battles Won: 70 %

Fouls Won/Committed: 13/6

Arron says: 9.5

It was only Levante, which does need to be taken into consideration. Even last season when we were nowhere near this level under Tata Martino, we ran riot against Levante so you know, a Manita isn’t exactly an unusual result for this fixture. Still, it was a near flawless performance from the Blaugrana, who only really gave up a couple of half-chances throughout the entirety of the 90 minutes.

Luis Enrique
8.6

Arron says: 10.0

"Enrique’s rotation policy is harming the club" – these were the headlines about a month ago. Now, Lucho makes eight changes and gets a performance like this. In theory, he isn’t doing an awful lot differently – but now the players have belief, they are executing far better, credit has to go to Enrique for finally getting the best out of the squad.

MOTM - Lionel Messi
88%

Bostjan says: Messi

Messi's dictatorship of Man of the Match award continues, and if he continues to play like this it will for a long time. And that percentage would've been even higher had it not been for good performances from Bartra and Neymar who finished in a tie for second place with 4%.
