The center-back was proud of his team

Gerard Pique may not have been able to play for Barcelona against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday but was still thinking about his team-mates.

The center-back missed the trip to France due to a knee injury but couldn’t hide his pride at his team’s performance at the Parc des Princes.

The second leg ended 1-1 but the scoreline doesn’t tell the true story of the game with the visitors having created enough chances to have won comfortably.

Pique took to Twitter after the match to urge his team-mates on despite their latest European exit. He wrote: “What a fantastic match. To play that well deserves huge merit after the first-leg result. I’m proud of my team and my team-mates. There’s lots left to compete for this season and we’ll continue to do so until the end. Heads high and let’s continue this way. Come on!”

Sergi Roberto, another player to miss out through injury, also had some words of support for his team-mates. He wrote: “Proud of this team! We have 2 titles left and we will give it our all like today! Today and always, long live Barça !!”

Barca do get a bit of a break now before they return to action. The Catalan giants don’t play again until Monday when they take on bottom side Huesca in La Liga at the Camp Nou.

It seems unlikely Pique will be back for that game, but there is hope Ronald Araujo could be fit and available after being sidelined again recently.
