The 58-year-old is officially back at the Camp Nou
Joan Laporta is officially Barcelona’s president for a second time after an inauguration ceremony at the club on Wednesday at the Camp Nou.
The 58-year-old gave a passionate and quite emotional speech during which he talked about coach Ronald Koeman and captain Lionel Messi who were in attendance.
Laporta promised that he would do all he can to keep Messi at the club.
“We’re going to try and convince him to stay because he’s the best ever and, forgive me for this Leo, but I love you and Barca loves you too. If this stadium was full, I’m sure you couldn’t leave.”
The new president also offered his full backing to Koeman
“Ronald, you have the confidence of this board. The team has improved and we have to try to win again. If we recover our economic level, we will be competitive again in the Champions League. We can win La Liga and the Copa.”
Messi and Pique were both spotted embracing Laporta before his speech and seemed pretty happy to have the president back and in charge.
Pique actually took to Twitter afterwards with a message of congratulations. He wrote: “We’re very happy. We will do it again. Congratulations Joan Laporta. Long live Barça!”
A new era begins.
