Rare praise for the Dutchman
Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman is doing a “great job” in what is a difficult role at the Camp Nou, according to Dutch legend Marco van Basten.
Koeman’s overcome a difficult start to oversee a 17-game unbeaten run that has seen his side move into second place in the league table. Barca have gone out of the Champions League but are also in the final of the Copa del Rey where Athletic await.
Van Basten seems impressed by what Koeman’s achieved so far.
“Koeman is doing a great job at Barça, because he has a very complicated atmosphere and he remains calm. He’s alive in the league and in the Cup final. Being a coach It is already difficult, but above all it is in Barcelona.”
The former AC Milan striker also spoke about some of the great teams of the past and made it clear he’s a big fan of Pep Guardiola’s Barca team.
“I don’t think our Milan is the most important in history, but at that time we were the best, we dominated football, but if you see Guardiola’s Barça, with all the stars, like Xavi or Iniesta, that was the best team ever and also the most spectacular.”

Koeman’s Barca face some really tricky fixtures in the coming weeks as the season really hots up. The Catalans take on Real Sociedad and Real Madrid in La Liga as well as playing the Copa del Rey final on April 17.
The Barca boss has been told by new president Joan Laporta he has his full backing ahead of the fixtures. The coach only signed a two-year deal when he arrived last summer but does currently look set to continue for at least another season.
