A comfortable 3-0 win for Lluis Cortes’s side
Barcelona Femeni enjoyed a 3-0 win over Manchester City Women in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday.
The game was played in Monza, rather than the Estadi Johan Cruyff due to Covid restrictions, but that didn’t seem to bother Lluis Cortes’s side who have taken charge of the tie.
Barcelona dominated the first half and broke the deadlock on 35 minutes through Asisat Oshoala. The forward fired a great shot across goal and in off the far post.

Oshoala was also in the thick of the action early in the second half and was brought down in the area by Demi Stokes to earn Barcelona a penalty.
Mariona Caldentey confidently struck home the spot kick to double Barca’s lead. However, City should have pulled one back minutes later with a penalty of their own.
Chloe Kelly stepped up for the visitors but saw her effort well saved by Barcelona goalkeeper Sandra Panos.
City did carve out some more great chances in the second half and should have claimed an important away goal but were let down by some poor finishing.
The missed proves costly as Barca hit a third late on to extend their lead after a lovely passing sequence that ended with Lieke Martens hitting the post but Jenni Hermoso netting the rebound.
