New president Joan Laporta is a big fan apparently
Joan Laporta’s return to Barcelona as president has already brought a fresh round of rumors about players who could arrive in the summer, and the speculation now seems to have turned to managers.
According to Cadena SER, Laporta has a lot of respect for current boss Ronald Koeman, but the Dutchman wouldn’t have been his first choice and indeed it seems the new president is a big fan of Julian Nagelsmann.
The report states that Koeman, who has a contract until 2022, could continue at Barcelona next season, particularly if he wins a title this season but the club are pondering potential replacements.
Nagelsmann, who is still only 33, has made an impact with his stints at Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig and has already been linked with taking over a host of top clubs in Europe including Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Tottenham.
The RB Leipzig coach took his team all the way to the Champions League semi-finals last season, becoming the youngest manager to reach the last four of Europe’s top competition.
Nagelsmann’s team were knocked out by Liverpool in the last-16 this season but are currently second in the Bundesliga table, and just two points behind Bayern Munich, despite losing star man Timo Werner last summer to Chelsea.
