Footballers from every team in the division will play video games (FIFA 20) this weekend
Sergi Roberto will represent Barcelona in a video game tournament in which every team in La Liga will have a player take command of their team in FIFA 20.
The tournament is organized by Ibai Llanos. most famous for being a commentator for video game competitions. It will be livestreamed online, with some of Spain’s most famous commentators narrating the action.
In addition to Roberto, Marco Asensio (Real Madrid) and Marcos Llórente (Atlético Madrid) are some of the most famous players taking part.
The tournament is said to have official status from La Liga, although it is purely a friendly competition. The goal, besides lifting the spirits of fans, is to raise money for medical professionals.
Chelsea captain César Azpilicueta, another Spaniard, is said to be working on adapting it or being involved in some way.
The project started after Real Betis’s Borja Iglesias and Sevilla’s Sergio Reguilón played the Seville derby online when they could not play on the pitch it due to the current health crisis.
The match was an exciting affair with Sevilla racing to a 2-0 lead, before Betis scored 4 in a row to make it 2-4. Reguilón showed great character and scored three in a row himself, retaking the lead at 5-4. But Iglesias fired back to make it 5-5 in normal time. The players agreed to start a new game and award the win to whoever scored first. The winner would come for Betis, with Iglesias scoring using his own avatar to make the final score 5-6 for Betis.
