The president has been talking salary reductions
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu says captain Lionel Messi made it clear from day one that the players would need to take pay cuts due to the coronavirus crisis.
The players confirmed on Monday they would be taking a 70% salary reduction as well as contributing further to ensure club employees would receive all their wages.
Their statement also expressed frustration at criticism aimed at players for not coming to an agreement more quickly, and Bartomeu has now offered his thoughts on the developments.
“From the first moment, Messi said that this must be done. It is a gesture that shows his commitment to the club,” he said.
“From within the club there are those who try to put us under the magnifying glass and try to add pressure. Perhaps the players have been bothered by things that people inside and outside the club have said but they do not have all the information. The negotiations were carried out only by Oscar Grau and I and we have not said anything.”

Bartomeu was also asked about his thoughts on when La Liga may resume and said he did not expect games to recommence until the end of June at the earliest.
