Barcelona players have reportedly been asked to take a pay cut of up to 70% to help the club out during the current coronavirus outbreak.

According to multiple reports, the players appreciate the financial situation but are yet to come to an agreement with the club.

The Guardian report the pay cuts would apply to the men’s and women’s teams, Barca B, the Under-19s and also the club’s basketball, handball, futsal and roller hockey teams.

The salary reductions would last only as long as the club are in lockdown with players going back to their full wage even if the league season is Spain is not completed.

Sport have a similar report but say there is division in the dressing room between the players, as some are against the plan but others believe it is acceptable.

There’s no doubt the club’s finances are taking a hit currently, with reports suggesting they are expecting to lose €60 million because of the pandemic.

It’s also worth noting that some of the club’s players have already donated money to help in the battle against coronavirus.

Lionel Messi has made a donation, believed to be €1 million, to Barcelona’s Hospital Clínic, while Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s Germany have pledged €2.5m in “emergency aid.”
