Barcelona is sponsored by rival Pro Evolution Soccer

Sergi Roberto has been forced to forfeit the La Liga Santander Challenge, a video game tournament, due to sponsorship reasons. The tournament, which has raised almost €137,000 for UNICEF’s mission to fight coronavirus, pits one player from each team in La Liga to play FIFA 20 online.

Roberto was Barcelona’s representative, but was forced to cancel and forfeit his match against Edu Expósito of Eibar. No Barcelona player was allowed to participate because Pro Evolution Soccer, a rival video game to FIFA, sponsors the team.

Eibar was allowed to progress to the quarterfinals without having to play, where Expósito defeated Borja Iglesias of Betis. Eibar’s run would end against Marco Asensio of Real Madrid in the semifinal.

The final is due to kickoff any moment now, between Real Madrid and Aitor Rubial’s Leganés. Click here to watch and donate if you are able to.
