The club have released a statement detailing changes
Barcelona have confirmed in a statement they will be going ahead with pay cuts due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
Reports this week have revealed the club have been in talks with their players about salary reductions, with some claiming cuts of up to 70 per cent have been mentioned.
The Spanish champions have now released a statement outlining the measures they are taking due to the pandemic and “the need to adapt the contractual obligations of the club staff to the new and temporary circumstances that we are experiencing.”
Barcelona haven’t revealed the extent of the cuts but have offered a bit more detail in their statement:
“Basically it is a reduction of the working day, imposed by the circumstances and the protection measures carried out, and, as a consequence, the proportional reduction of the remuneration provided for in the respective contracts.
“Measures that the club wants to implement scrupulously follow the formal labour regulations, under the criteria of proportionality, and above all fairness, and with the sole objective of resuming the activity of the club as soon as possible.”

Reports have suggested Barca are expecting to lose €60 million due to the coronavirus outbreak, with La Liga currently suspended indefinitely.
Barcelona were named as the world’s richest club in January, generating record revenue of €841 million, but are still clearly feeling the economic impact of the pandemic.
