With football at a stop, Barcelona is digging into the archives

There’s no football right now because of the coronavirus, so Barcelona is hoping to give fans something close to the real thing for the time being. The club’s official YouTube “livestreamed” a 2005 Joan Gamper match between Barça and Juventus, a game most famous for introducing the world to one Lionel Messi.

The club used the “livestream” feature and treated it as if it were happening live, although of course, it isn’t. Still, it’s a fun trip down memory lane. (Will Zlatan Ibrahimović succeed Henrik Larsson in the Swedish national team? How long will Ronaldinho remain at Barcelona? Wow, look, Víctor Valdés has hair!)

Here’s the replay if you missed it:

The match ended 2-2 (spoiler alert!) but is best remembered for being one of the first games in which Lionel Messi really shone brightly against a known European powerhouse, albeit in a friendly.

The club is going to be livestreaming more as football takes a break.
