A favorite for the job may be about to drop out of the race
Is Juan Carlos Unzue about to drop out of the race to replace Luis Enrique? He could well be if the latest speculation is to be believed with the 50-year-old reportedly now a candidate to replace Eduardo Berizzo at Celta Vigo.
Cadena Ser’s program Carrusel Deportivo claims Unzue is the club’s top choice to take charge of the club if Berizzo does not continue after this season.
Berizzo’s contract expires at the end of June with no new deal yet agreed, meaning he could walk away from the club, leaving a vacancy at the Galicians.
However, Unzue, along with Ernesto Valverde, is also a leading contender to replace Luis Enrique and Jordi Mestre claimed after Saturday’s win over Villarreal that the club is close to a decision.

Valverde is hardly a done deal either Athletic Bilbao president Josu Urrutia refusing to rule out keeping hold of his coach, who like Berizzo, is out of contract in June, when speaking to the media last week.
“Nobody can say we have spoken to any other coach. Valverde is the first option.
“Ernesto is doing very good work and knows that this club is always moving forward.
"Here the important thing is the team. We have no fear and we will go forward united as one.”

Barca have also seen other rumoured contenders drop out of the race in recent weeks.
Early favourite Jorge Sampaoli looks destined for Argentine and while Ronald Koeman has claimed he would love the job, he also hinted that now is not the right time.
An announcement on who will replace Luis Enrique is not expected until the end of the season although if Unzue does go to Celta, there may be one less option to consider.
