Aleix Vidal doesn’t seem fit yet, either.
Sergi Roberto picked up his fifth yellow card as Barcelona defeated Villarreal 4-1, meaning he will be out for the upcoming Las Palmas clash.
Roberto had been on four cards ever since the match against Granada, and he had been able to avoid getting a fifth one for a while, but his luck ran out last weekend.
He was carded for a professional foul trying to stop a Villarreal counterattack in the first half, which leaves Luis Enrique short of options.
That’s on top of Roberto being suspended against Deportivo Alaves in the cup final, meaning of the three games left, Roberto will only be available for the Eibar clash.
Aleix Vidal is still injured, and though many Cules dream of him being fit just in time for at least the cup final, it’s just that - a dream. He’s recovering quicker than expected, but it’s still very hard for him to be fit in time.
Meanwhile, Barcelona B’s Nili, who could be an emergency backup, is himself getting over an infection that knocked him out for two weeks. Sergi Palencia is another option from the B team, but he’s not Lucho’s preferred choice and more than that, Palencia is needed in the B team’s playoffs to get into Segunda.
That leaves Lucho two options: (1) play with Javier Mascherano as a right-back, as was the case for part of the game against Villarreal or (2) play with a three man line, sacrificing Jordi Alba again, with... Andre Gomes or Paco Alcacer or Denis Suarez or Arda Turan or someone, maybe... at right-wing. Let’s remember Lucho’s first choice was Rafinha, then Roberto, and both will be out.
Either way, Barcelona have a headache in their last three games of the season.
