The president spoke after Ansu Fati extended his contract
Barcelona president Joan Laporta spoke about how it’s his dream of seeing the Catalan giants put out an entire starting XI of La Masia players after seeing Ansu Fati extend his contract at the Camp Nou.
Fati has been at Barcelona since he was just 10 years old and has committed his long-term future to the club by signing on until 2027.
The teenage striker is one of a host of exciting young players in and around the first team and Laporta told reporters he would love to see Barca put out a whole team of La Masia graduates.
“My great dream would be to one day play with eleven homegrown players. The dream of the whole board and mine. To have a team made up of people from La Masia,” he said.
There are a host of homegrown talents currently in and around the first-team squad with players such as Eric Garcia, Oscar Mingueza, Gavi, Alejandro Balde, Nico Gonzalez, and Riqui Puig enjoying game time this season.
Laporta also spoke about Sunday’s Clasico clash with Real Madrid and said he’s feeling confident that Ronald Koeman’s side can take all three points against Los Blancos.
“I have good feelings. The team has been improving, we are recovering injuries, starting with Ansu. Kun is already here, there are players who have been improving their contribution,” he said.
“We play at home, with the public. I take this opportunity to ask them to come on Sunday because it will be a great football show. Real Madrid is also looking forward to it. I’m optimistic. I see a goal from Ansu. He has already scored a goal for Madrid, so you already know how to do it.”
Fati does look set to start against Real Madrid after only playing 45 minutes in midweek against Dynamo Kiev. Garcia could also return to the starting XI after he was forced to miss the Champions League clash through suspension.
