“Put a mic on, go upstairs, and do commentary”
Gerard Piqué made a sarcastic quip aimed at Leganés player Recio after the latter protested the penalty given to Barcelona yesterday. Audio of the match captured by Cadena SER, which was played without fans in the stands, showed the defender saying to Recio: “Every play, you make a comment. Put a mic on the man, go upstairs and do commentary.”
Recio was protesting after Lionel Messi had gone on a long dribble, starting from right around the halfway line, and into the opposing penalty box, where he was judged to have been tripped by Unai Bustinza. The Leganés players voiced their displeasure at the referee, Juan Martínez Munuera, who did not back down and in fact booked Rubén Pérez for arguing.
Messi scored from the spot, and Barcelona went on to win the match 2-0.
