Barcelona to debut pioneering technology for hospitalized children to experience matches

For the first time, “Robot Pol” will be deployed for the Barcelona-Lyon game in the Champions League

FC Barcelona’s foundation, with the help of Olympique Lyonnais and the Éric Abidal Foundation, will debut a pioneering technology for hospitalized kids to experience matches when the Catalans face Lyon in the UEFA Champions League tomorrow.

It’s called “Robot Pol,” named after the child the technology was first developed for, who sadly, passed away since. The remote-controlled device has two cameras and will be piloted by the child, with the help of a Barcelona foundation volunteer.

Using Robot Pol, the child will be able to experience the players arriving through the tunnel, and watch the warm-ups and the start of the game.

Here’s a video which demonstrates the technology:

Barça hope to continue using this device to allow children who cannot physically visit the Camp Nou to experience what it’s like to take in a match at the historic stadium.
