Leo Messi celebrated reaching a century of games for Argentina by helping his side top Group B thanks to a largely unimpressive 1-0 victory over Jamaica. A strike from Gonzalo Higuaín in the first half hands ‘Tata’ Martino’s side a quarter-final against either Ecuador, or any one of Brazil, Peru, Venezuela or Colombia, which will be played on Friday 26 June in Viña del Mar at 8.30pm local time.

Chile top group with emphatic victory over Bolivia (5-0) | FC Barcelona
Both teams were already through to the last eight of the competition prior to the game due to Ecuador's 2-1 victory over Mexico earlier in the day. Goals from Aránguiz and ex-blaugrana Alexis Sánchez in the first half and another from Aránguiz and then Medel in the second mean the tournament's hosts top their group and will now face one of the third placed sides from either Group B or Group C in a quarter-final that will be played in Santiago on Wednesday 24 June at 8.30pm (local time).

Ivan Rakitic embraced his Barcelona role - ESPN FC
At the same time, however, it is fair to say that their talents could only shine thanks to the undeniable contribution of non-homegrown midfielders who offered an extra element of directness and physicality. Bernd Schuster in the 1980s, Jose Mari Bakero in the 1990s and Deco in the early 00s were prime examples. Fast forward to the present and, perhaps unsurprisingly, history is repeating itself. That Luis Enrique's team has completed the perfect season by winning the treble is as much to do with Ivan Rakitic as anyone else.
