The midfielder has joined the Turkish side on loan
Miralem Pjanic finally managed to find a way out of Barcelona on Thursday, sealing a season-long loan with Besiktas, and reportedly made a great gesture to ensure the deal could be done.
According to RAC1, the 31-year-old has agreed to take a 60% paycut for the current season and the remaining two years left on his Barcelona contract. Pjanic’s deal runs until the end of the 2023-24 season.
The agreement means Pjanic now earns €3.2m net per year for the rest of his contract at the Camp Nou. The report adds that Besiktas will pay €2.75m of his wages this season with Barca picking up the rest.
Pjanic was one of Barca’s top earners and his wage reduction is another move which will help Barca’s financial mess. He joins Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba in taking a significant salary reduction.
Barca also offloaded another high earner, Antoine Griezmann, on deadline day with the Frenchman sealing a return to Atletico Madrid on loan with a purchase option.
It’s a great gesture from Pjanic who has had a pretty miserable time at Barcelona since his move from Juventus in the summer of 2020. He’ll be hoping for regular minutes at Besiktas in a bid to get his career back on track.
