‘The season is long but I believe in this team’
Sergi Roberto says Barcelona have to fight for the title and must start winning games after dropping points again in La Liga on Thursday night at Cadiz.
The Catalan giants were held to a goalless draw and once again found it tough going, particularly after losing Frenkie de Jong to a red card in the second half.
Coach Ronald Koeman also saw red late on in a frantic end to the game which leaves Barca unbeaten after five games but seven points off the top, although they do have a game in hand.
Roberto spoke after the match and said finishing in the top four is not enough for the Catalan giants and they must fight for the title.
“We have to recharge our batteries and start winning games. Results haven’t been very good and we have to do more. From our goalkeeeper, forwards, substitutes, everyone.
“The season is long but I believe in this team. We are on a bad run but the team will go forward and give our best.
“We have to fight for the league. We are Barca. It is not worth it to me to be fourth, we have to fight for the league. We‘ve got good players and we have a squad to go for La Liga.”
Barcelona now head home to start preparing for Sunday’s match against Levante at the Camp Nou. The red cards mean that Koeman won’t be on the bench for the game, while De Jong will also miss out due to suspension.
