‘We have a great squad with great players’
Ronald Araujo spoke to the press on Tuesday ahead of Barcelona’s Champions League clash with Benfica and made it clear he expects his team to challenge for titles this season.
Coach Ronald Koeman has been pretty negative in several interviews about Barca’s chances this season, but Araujo is having none of it and wants to pick up trophies.
“Barça want to win it all and we have to fight for the biggest prizes. We can’t just wait to see what happens, we have to go out to win and challenge the biggest teams.
“Getting points in the league is really important. We played really well and that was key. Now we have a week with two key games against Benfica and Atlético and that is motivating. We have a great squad with great players and we have to go for everything.
“We are in good shape and we are coming off the back of a good performance and that’s the road to follow. We need to go for the three points.”
Barca head to Benfica after a good win over Levante which also saw the return of Ansu Fati from injury. Araujo lifted the teenager into the air after he’d scored in celebration and admitted he loved having the teenager back out on the pitch.
“The celebration was unplanned. I am really happy that he is back but we know what happened and it needed patience and hard work. I am happy that he is happy but this is just the beginning, we can’t rush things.”
Araujo was surprisingly left out of the starting XI against Levante, only appearing as a late substitute, but it seems certain he will be back in the team against Benfica on Wednesday night.
