“They send you off for nothing in this country”

Ronald Koeman was not happy with his red card after being sent off late on in Barcelona’s 0-0 draw against Cadiz in La Liga.

The Dutchman says he was sent off for “nothing” and was just purely pointing out there were two balls on the pitch in the closing stages of the game.

“It’s better not to speak about that because if everyone sees a second ball on the pitch except (the ref), it speaks for itself,” he said.

“In this country, they send you off for nothing. Everyone saw the two balls on the pitch except him. I told the fourth official there were two balls... but here they send you off for nothing, nada.”

Koeman also spoke about his team’s performance and felt his team had been the better side but just hadn’t managed to find the crucial goal.

“I think in general the team was good,” he added. “We had the ball but struggled to create chances, although we did have the best chances. We were there until the last minute.

“I can’t complain about the attitude, I’m very happy with the team’s attitude. We were superior until the Frenkie de Jong red; then we had more problems with 10 men, but we still had the best chances. We lacked the efficiency to take them. If you don’t score, you don’t win.”

It’s now three games without a win for Koeman and Barcelona who are back in action on Sunday against Levante. Sunday’s visitors are yet to taste victory in La Liga so far this season and were beaten 2-0 by Celta Vigo last time out.
