Business as usual for the champs

Barcelona’s all-conquering Women’s team kicked off the new season in style thanks to a 5-0 win over Granadilla Tenerife at the Johan Cruyff Stadium. The Blaugrana were on top from the start, scored some really nice goals and started their title defense with the usual dominance.

FIRST HALF

Barça Femení started the game with plenty of possession and passed their way into the Tenerife box with ease, and created enough to score at least twice in the first 30 minutes. The visitors did a solid job defensively though, and after the first half-hour the score was somehow 0-0.

The home team’s dominance was finally rewarded with two goals in a span of four minutes, both coming from 19-year-old Bruna Vilamala, who was given two easy tap-ins after excellent team moves to give the Blaugrana a lead they thoroughly deserved.

Granadina had one attack the entire half and had a solid shout for a penalty that wasn’t given, and at halftime Barça were two goals up and hungry for more in the final period.

SECOND HALF

The best thing about Barça Femení is how they don’t relax despite having the lead and keep looking for as many goals as they can, and that attitude led to more dominance in the second half.

Alexia Putellas ran the show in midfield and was involved in every chance Barça created in the period, and she got rewarded for her Women of the Match performance with her first goal of the season and Barça’s third of the game with a smart finish inside the box off a Crnogorcevic assist.

There was still time for more as Patri Guijarro headed home the fourth off a Melanie Serrano corner, and substitute Cláudia Pina made it 5-0 with a tap-in after a Putellas shot was deflected inside the box.

The final whistle came to end a marvelous performance and a great win for Barça, who are already top of the table where they belong. New head coach Jonatan Giráldez is off to a dominant start, and this team looks hungry to keep winning this season.
