The club wants to offload the defender, but he’s not making it easy on them
Joan Laporta has a clear goal of offloading players that are surplus to requirements to try and solve Barcelona’s financial problems, but the problem is convincing some of those players to leave the club.
One of them is Samuel Umtiti, who is very clearly no longer on Ronald Koeman’s or the club’s plans, and another indication of that came on Saturday when Umtiti was left out of the friendly against Stuttgart.
Barça are desperate to sell the defender but haven’t received any concrete offers yet, and the player himself isn’t making it easy. According to Mundo Deportivo, Umtiti “insists on staying” at the club even though his agent is trying to facilitate a move elsewhere.
Any team willing to do business with Barça is only interested in doing so on loan deals, according to other reports, and those teams would want the Blaugrana to pay some of Umtiti’s high wages as well which doesn’t help Barça’s finances.
The transfer window shuts in a month, and Barça don’t seem any closer to make the changes to the squad they’ve wanted to all summer. Worrying times.
