The teenager has jetted off on holiday

Barcelona midfielder Pedri is finally on holiday after a whirlwind 12 months that has seen the 18-year-old feature 76 times for club and country.

The teenager has jetted off to the Canary Islands for a two-week holiday and will miss Barcelona’s game against Getafe on Sunday.

Pedri did feature in Saturday’s draw with Athletic, playing 62 minutes before being replaced by Sergi Roberto at San Mames.

Coach Ronald Koeman confirmed before the match that it would be Pedri’s final game before he took an overdue break.

“He will play tomorrow and then he’ll have two weeks of holiday so he doesn’t go into November and December with physical problems,” he said. “We’ve given him two weeks of holiday because that’s what Pedri needs. After all the matches he played, the two tournaments, he needs at least two weeks rest.”

Koeman also said he’s spoken to Luis Enrique about Pedri and seemed confident the youngster won’t be called up for Spain’s World Cup qualifiers in September. The team is set to face games against Sweden, Georgia, and Kosovo.
