Following a hard-fought 1-1 draw away to Athletic Bilbao last week, Barcelona return to action in La Liga and it’s another tricky one in a brutal opening schedule as the Blaugrana face Getafe at Camp Nou, once again with fans allowed at the Greatest Stadium on Earth.
The full week of rest and training gave Ronald Koeman three big fitness boosts as Marc-André ter Stegen, Óscar Mingueza and Philippe Coutinho all return from injury for this one. Depth is important in a long season, and having as many talented players as possible is crucial without Lionel Messi.
This is the final game before the first international break of the season, and going into the next two weeks with 7 points from the first three games would be a big deal as Barça try and start a new era with positive performances and results. The balance from the first two games against the two Basque giants is positive, and Getafe will provide another tough test.
This won’t be the same gritty, sometimes brutal Getafe team, however. José Bordalás is out as manager and in his place comes Míchel who seems to have a more attack-minded approach from what we’ve seen in his first two games in charge, though the defensive intensity is very much still there.
Getafe are in transition and lost their opening two games, but they were tough 1-0 defeats against Valencia and Sevilla which is not at all embarrassing. They’ll be tough, intense and organized at Camp Nou, and Barça must be at their best.
Let’s dance.
