The Getafe left-back is said to be going to the Premier League

If all goes as scheduled, Brighton and Hove Albion will pay 18 million euro to trigger Marc Cucurella’s release clause, and FC Barcelona will get some of the proceeds of the sale.

More specifically, the Catalans will receive around 1.8 million since they retained 10% of a future sale when he was sold to Getafe for 10 million.

Cucurella came up through Espanyol’s academy first, before joining La Masia. He played in Barcelona B, and made his debut for the full team in a 2017 Copa del Rey match. He never played a league game for Barcelona, though, and was loaned to Eibar. Eibar bought him, but Barcelona quickly used their buyback clause and loaned him to Getafe with an option to buy.

Getafe initially was going to buy Cucurella for 6 million, with Barcelona retaining 40% of a future sale. However, then president Josep Maria Bartomeu opted for taking 10 million upfront, and only 10% of a future sale. This ultimately proved a costly decision, as Barcelona would be taking 7.2 million instead of 1.8 million, or 5.4 million more. They got 4 million more at the time, but missed out on 5.4 now.

Cucurella has received one cap for Spain and also represented the Catalan national team.
