The defender was replaced in the first half
Barcelona defender Gerard Pique was forced off with an injury in the first half of Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Athletic.
The 34-year-old had been a doubt before the game, although Ronald Koeman shrugged off reports he had an injury in his pre-match press conference.
Yet Pique only lasted just over half an hour at San Mames before he had to go off and be replaced by Ronald Araujo in the heart of the defense.
Barca confirmed after the game that Pique has suffered a calf problem but haven’t given any indication as to how serious it might be.

Ronald Koeman was asked about the defender after the final whistle but didn’t give too much away. He said, “I don’t think he has any serious injury. He was able to train well yesterday, without any problems. We have to analyze and see what has happened.”
Barca’s next game is on Sunday at home to Getafe which does give Pique some time to recover. The Catalans will be without Eric Garcia for the game against Getafe after he was sent off in stoppage time after picking up a second yellow card.
The news means that Araujo is almost certain to get his first start of the season next weekend after featuring twice off the bench so far in 2021-22.
