Barcelona B kicked off their league season on Saturday against Algeciras CF but had to settle for a 1-1 draw as the visitors came from behind to snatch a point.

New manager Sergi Barjuán was without a host of names, with Nico, Gavi, Inaki Pena and Yusuf Demir all in the first team squad to face Getafe, while Ilaix Moriba remains frozen out.

Here’s how Barjuan lined his Barca B team up:

Ilaix was actually spotted in the stands (something he may have to get used to) along with Ansu Fati, Gavi, Nico, Ronald Araujo and former boss Garcia Pimienta for the game.

Barca B needed only 10 minutes to open the scoring through Nils Mortimer. Summer signing Antonio Aranda deserves plenty of credit for some great work down the left to tee up Nils for the opener.

Mortimer thought he’d scored his second of the night just after half-time. The 20-year-old headed home at the far post from a free-kick but saw his effort disallowed for offside.

That was about as good as it got for Barca B who were reduced to 10 men on the hour mark when captain Arnau Comas was shown a straight red card.

Algeciras took advantage of the extra man and equalized 13 minutes later when Tomas Sanchez scored directly from a corner to snatch a point.

It’s a tricky start for Barca B under new coach Barjuan. The hosts had looked set for three points after a bright first half but, after going a man down, probably won’t be too unhappy with a point.
