Jordi Alba’s pay cut has freed up space for the striker

Barcelona are expected to finally register Sergio Aguero with La Liga in the coming days after more players agreed salary reductions.

The Catalan giants needed Gerard Pique to take a substantial pay cut to register Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia and allow the duo to make their debuts with the club.

There’s not been such a rush to register Aguero as he’s out until at least October after picking up a calf injury during pre-season.

In the meantime Barca have been able to agree wage cuts with Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets which will allow the Argentine to be registered, according to Catalunya Radio.

Alba is reported to have agreed a reduction of around 25% and will also defer part of his wages until 2024. Busquets has also agreed a “significant” reduction.

The next player in line appears to be Sergi Roberto, although talks are said to be still ongoing with the 29-year-old. ESPN report the midfielder “is willing to reduce his pay but is not happy with the terms proposed by the club.”

Barca could then turn their attentions to the rest of the squad. There have already been whispers that talks are planned with Antoine Griezmann, Philippe Coutinho, and Samuel Umtiti about further reductions.
