This follows the dismissal of the B team manager
FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has followed up the dismissal of Barcelona B manager Francisco Javier García Pimienta with the firing of another long-standing servant of the club, Guillermo Amor, as part of a series of sackings meant to remodel youth football at Barcelona.
A former player for a decade at the Camp Nou, Amor last played for Scottish club Livingston.
He returned in the 2005 as the director of youth football for Barcelona, then was fired in 2007, before returning to the post in 2010. He was let go in 2014, and then he had a stint as the coach of Adelaide United before returning to Barcelona to head up youth development alongside Jose Mari Bakero (a former teammate) in 2017. He was eventually moved from that job and had been in charge of the first team’s institutional relations prior to his firing.
Laporta has headed a revolution at the club, focused on attempting to bring fresh ideas to the team’s academy. Pimienta’s firing has been controversial, however, with reports that some players had expressed dissatisfaction with the move.
Jordi Roura, Aureli Altimira, and Álex García are also expected to be be let go.
Roura and Altimira were the heads of youth football who had long been employed by the club. Roura, in fact, had coached some games for the first team while Tito Vilanova received treatment in his time as manager.
García had been Barcelona’s chief scout.
The Catalan press is calling this series of firings “historical,” postulating that the decisions could have huge effects down the line for the club.
