Carles Puyol was quick to offer his view on Lionel Messi after the Barcelona captain produced a masterclass against Espanyol.
The skipper scored two brilliant free-kicks and produced a superb assist for Ousmane Dembele as Barcelona coasted to a 4-0 win over their local rivals.
It was a performance that made a mockery of his fifth-placed Ballon d’Or finish this week, a point Puyol alluded to on social media.
He tweeted: “Does anyone doubt he’s the best? He doesn’t need individual prizes.”

Messi now has 11 goals and eight assists in 13 La Liga outings his season. Not bad going for the fifth best player in the world.
