Chelsea’s Álvaro Morata “an option” for Barcelona

Hold on. What?

Álvaro Morata is struggling in London. He wasn’t in the squad as Maurizio Sarri’s side defeated Manchester City 2-0, with rumors that he’s looking for a way out. Now, RAC1 is reporting that the player has offered himself to Barcelona and that “the option to reinforce the Barcelona forward line is on the table.”

The report states that initial meetings to suss out the situation have already taken place.

Another radio station, COPE, claims Chelsea are looking to loan out the former Real Madrid, Juventus, and Spain striker. It is said to be the club’s decision, rather than Sarri’s.

Barcelona recently let Paco Alcácer go to Borussia Dortmund, where he has been in devastating form. Meanwhile, Munir has yet to truly make his mark as Luis Suárez’s backup. The feeling is Barcelona are already thinking about the Uruguayan’s eventual successor.

Morata is not too old at 26, but he can no longer be thought of as a prospect. A loan in the winter usually would point to a short-term solution, but is Morata right now in good enough form to be thought of as a short-term solution?

Munir may not have lit the world on fire, but he should be adequate for the time being. A move for Morata now would be very odd.
