Lyon boss Bruno Genesio says it would be a waste of time trying to make a plan to stop Lionel Messi when the two teams meet in the Champions League last 16.
Genesio spoke in glowing terms about the Barcelona captain and also said his team will have to be right at their very best if they are to progress.
“Of course you can make plans, but against Messi, all the plans you made are useless because he’s such a genius,” he said.
“I believe he scored 50 goals in 2018 and he’s not alone.
“Of course there’s Leo Messi, but there are other great players in the team, so you have to create plans everywhere on the pitch.
“You need a team that’s at 100 or 150 per cent, and hope to beat them over two games.”

Barcelona will be big favourites to make it through to the quarter-finals. However, Lyon’s results against Manchester City in the group stages show they are capable of springing a surprise.
