Xavi not keen on Barcelona signing Bellerin

If you want to leave, then don’t come back, is the message

Barcelona legend Xavi is not keen on the idea of Barcelona signing Hector Bellerin this summer, with the club still reportedly in the hunt for a right-back.

In all fairness the speculation over Bellerin has gone incredibly quiet in recent days, with reports in Portugal claiming Barca are back in for Nelson Semedo.

That’s sure to please Xavi who feels that if players want to leave Barca, they should not be brought back.

When asked if he would sign Bellerin, he told Sport: “I haven’t seen him play much, but I’ll say one thing: it would be difficult for me to sign a player we’d already had.”

When reminded that Barca brought both Gerard Pique and Cesc Fabregas back he replied: “Yes, it can turn out good, bad or average. But I’m not in favour of re-signing players who have left. Why do they leave at 16 or 17? It seems ridiculous to me. I don’t understand it.”

And what about Gerard Deulofeu, who has returned this summer? “That was different. He didn’t want to leave. He was asked to go,” argues Xavi who was also disappointed to see youngsters Jordi Mboula and Eric Garcia leave.

“I was very surprised by what they did,” he added. “I wouldn’t re-sign them in the future. I’d have that approach. You were here, you wanted to leave, well don’t come back.

“I understand if you want to go, it’s for a reason. Like Toral, he left because his mum’s English. Ok, but it is what it is. The ship’s sailed.”

The ship for Bellerin may indeed have sailed already, with Arsenal determined not to allow the full-back to leave, it seems.

Do you agree with Xavi? Should the club refuse to sign former players? Or is there anyone (erm Thiago?) who you would love to see back? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
