He’ll cost a little bit more than first thought
Barcelona’s capture of Nelson Semedo has been rightly praised as a great deal, not only are the club getting a fine player, but the move was completed swiftly and for a great price.
Except, Semedo is not quite as cheap as first seemed, with Benfica having now revealed via their website, exactly how much Barcelona will have to pay for the 23-year-old.
The Blaugrana have paid an initial €30.5 million for his services but will also pay another €5m for every 50 matches he plays for his new club.
Seeing that Semedo has signed a four-year deal, with an option for a fifth year, providing all goes well, it seems highly likely Barca will pay at least an extra €5m, if not more.
So not quite the bargain we thought we were getting, but if we compare it to say, I don’t know Manchester City’s capture of 27-year-old Kyle Walker for £50m, it’s still a really exciting deal for Barca.

Semedo, for his part, is ready to start repaying the faith shown in him from Barcelona
“I love playing. I never give up on a ball, I play until the final whistle. Barça can have every confidence in me. I will do everything I can to honor the shirt,” he told the official Barca website.
I'm sure that Barça can explain that better than me, but in the last four years I have developed a lot, created a new style of play thanks to the managers and the teams I've been with.
“They helped a lot. If it wasn't for them, perhaps I wouldn’t be here today. So, I can only thank them. And I repeat, I'm ready for the challenge and you can trust me to deliver.”
Semedo could now make his debut for the club on their pre-season tour of the United States.
Barca’s first game is against Juventus on July 22nd in New Jersey, following by clashes with Manchester United and Real Madrid.
