Anything’s possible, but I find it hard to believe this one.
We have seen murmurs in the press saying Neymar is ready to accept an offer from Paris Saint-Germain to leave FC Barcelona. But are they true?
Barcelona’s VP doesn’t think so. And I don’t either.
First off, let’s go back to basics. Two things have to be true for the transfer to go through.
- PSG either has to pay the 222 million euro release clause in full OR Barcelona have to accept an offer for him
- Neymar himself has to accept the move
At this point, both things have been rumored to be true, but there isn’t solid evidence of it. And just as much as both have been rumored to be true, both have been rumored to be false.
Gerard Romero, a very respected Catalan journalist, tweeted that Neymar’s entourage told him the Brazilian star does not want to leave. And this was confirmed by COPE’s Helena Condis, who said the entourage informed her that Neymar is annoyed at the false rumors saying that he’s unsettled.
A report in Mundo Deportivo says Barcelona are "totally calm and express no symptoms of worry” about their prized forward departing. It also says the club sees Ney as fully committed to Barcelona, and see nothing to suggest otherwise.
When you have conflicting information, you can’t be 100% sure who is wrong. I haven’t phoned Neymar lately, so I couldn’t tell you with absolute certainty what he thinks. And a month ago I would have told you the chances of Paulinho being a Barcelona transfer target were zero. Clearly, unexpected things - even insane things - happen.
But until we get any direct indication that points one and two above are true, I just don’t buy it. The “Neymar to PSG” rumors are becoming a yearly tradition, along with the “Lionel Messi to Manchester City” rumors. And unless Messi was wearing sky blue last season, and I didn’t notice, I’m going to keep assuming there’s nothing there until we see more solid evidence.
