His comeback looks to have been delayed
It looks as though we are going to have to wait for Gerard Deulofeu’s return to action in Barcelona colours, with the winger expected to miss the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.
According to RAC1, Deulofeu will not travel with the rest of the squad when they head off this week, as he has a slight muscle problem and a small sprain to his knee.
The summer signing is also yet to train under Ernesto Valverde, due to the problem, although the new Barca coach did speak about Deulofeu in today’s press conference.
“I have spoken with him. He now has a muscle problem but is a club player and we think he can help us,” he said according to Mundo Deportivo.
“We will see the role he may or not have now. We think he can help, but I do not know to what extent.”
Hardly a ringing endorsement from Valverde, but then if he hasn’t yet had a chance to see him in training, surely is it better to reserve judgement for now.
If he does miss the tour, it will be something of a blow to the club’s plans. While we don’t really know what we are getting with Deulofeu, it would have been good to see if Valverde had started with him, his role, and whether he does look as though he can play a prominent role next season.
For now, it seems, we are just going to have wait a little longer.
