Barcelona make €30m Semedo offer - report

The chase for a new right-back continues

Could Barcelona’s search for a right-back finally be coming to a close? Well, possibly with Portuguese newspaper Record reporting the club have made a new offer of €30 million for the defender.

The report claims that the Blaugrana have turned their attentions away from first choice Hector Bellerin after being repeatedly told by Arsenal he is not for sale.

Therefore, Barca are now back in the chase for Semedo with Ernesto Valverde happy with the signing and Robert Fernandez seemingly having opening the bidding at €30m.

And that’s where the problem is likely to lie, previous reports in Portugal have claimed of “advanced negotiations” between the two clubs, with progress then stalling due to price.

Semedo is believed to have a €60m release clause although previous speculation has claimed Benfica would accept €50m. Either way, both are a long way from the reported €30m offer.

There are also claims that Manchester United are in the running for Semedo, with the Red Devils also short of options at full-back.

Jose Mourinho’s side have already shown this summer they are not afraid of spending big by bringing in Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof.

A new right-back has apparently been the priority all summer long, and Semedo is a great choice, however Barca will probably have to up their offer if they are not to lose out on yet another target.
