The president says the club are working on deals
Josep Maria Bartomeu has called for patience from fans and says Barcelona will bring in “two or three players” before the close of the transfer window.
So far it’s been a quiet window for the Blaugrana, although a host of players continue to be linked with a move to Camp Nou.
A potential move for Marco Verratti appears to have completely stalled, while a right-back remains on the cards, with speculation claiming Nelson Semedo is currently the top target.
Earlier this summer, Bartomeu promised “big name signings” and he continues to insist there will be arrivals.
"It's true that we need a couple of touches to improve even more," he told El Periodico.
"That's what really worries the supporters. Everyone asks: 'Who's coming? Who's not coming?' Because that's what really generates excitement.
"We're working on it. Two or three players will come in from outside the club. There's a long way to go in the window, we've got until the end of August. Patience.
"There are some signings [down the line], but I can't announce them until they're done. Robert is very clear on who he wants."
Bartomeu also insisted the club want to extend Andres Iniesta’s contract and hinted that new coach Ernesto Valverde would give young players a chance.
"I want to give some value to the current squad, we have great players," Bartomeu added. "We've renewed Messi, Neymar and Suarez. Pique, Busquets. Now we have to renew Iniesta.
"And then there are those that will be promoted from the B team. Valverde likes to look to the academy, that's what he's talked about in our conversations and we value that a lot."
Perhaps the biggest frustration at the moment, is not the lack of signings, but the type of players being linked, Paulinho being a case in point.
Will Bartomeu prove true to his word? Although it’s not looking great at present, there’s still a long way to go until the transfer window closes at the end of August,.
