Report: Funding Uncertainty Could Fuel Barcelona’s Capture of Marco Verratti from Paris Saint-Geramin

Is this dream still alive?

A new article written by Francesc Aguilar, an important figure at Catalan sports daily Mundo Deportivo, says that Paris Saint-Germain’s project could be in chaos, opening a door for Barcelona to swoop in for midfield maestro Marco Verratti.

According to Aguilar: the Qatari royal family, who fund the Parisian club, are considering their options going forward. This is combined with a disappointing year for PSG in the sporting side. They are in danger of losing Ligue 1, and they were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League in a shocking manner by Barcelona, conceding 3 goals in the dying minutes of a famous comeback. There may be some institutional shake ups along the way, with Olivier Letang losing some of his responsibilities within the club.

Meanwhile, some players, particularly Verratti, are becoming unsure of PSG’s project. Verratti reportedly was dejected following PSG’s elimination at the hands of Barcelona and started weighing the possibility of an exit in the coming summer.

Barcelona are looking to make a midfield signing the centerpiece of their summer spending. Philippe Coutinho of Liverpool is the most mentioned name rumored to be on the wishlist alongside Verrati’s.

PSG do not want to sell, and Barcelona will have to make a huge investment to make the transfer possible. It may depend on the player himself to force a move.
