Get ready for a long saga here...
Despite reports in Spain that Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho had agreed to join Barcelona, the player himself was at an awards gala giving a very different account of the situation.
Coutinho received the “Player of the Season” accolade at the Former Players end of the season awards, and while collecting his award, he told the crowd: “One day I hope I can win as many trophies for Liverpool as players in the past did.”
That presents a different picture than the rumors we’ve heard lately. That, along with a recently-signed contract that gives him a reported 150,000 pounds a week, and a Liverpool unwilling to sell even for a massive fee.
Still, we all know there is a degree of smoke and mirrors in any transfer so perhaps it’s premature to say the deal is dead in the water. But this “will he, won’t he” saga is starting to get dragged out.
