Spain have won their opening Group D match against the Czech Republic in the 2016 European Championships. Four Barcelona players (Jordi Alba, Gerard Pique, Andres Iniesta, and Sergio Busquets) got the start for La Roja in the match. They came into the opener coming off an embarrassing loss to Georgia, but have rebounded nicely with a 1-0 win.
It was Pique who got Spain the win with a late match-winning goal in the 87th minute. Not only did a Barcelona man score the goal, one also set it up with Andres Iniesta delivering a peach of a ball for the big man to head in.
The goal is Pique's fifth international goal, but his first in a major competition. The win lists Spain to the top of Group A alongside Croatia. Spain's next match will be on Friday against Turkey, a team that lost their opening match of the tournament. It appears that it will be Spain and Croatia battling it out for the top spot in the group.
It's great to see Pique nab his first goal in a major tournament. Here's to hoping more are to come. And, of course, there's always Iniesta showing his timeless class on the ball. What a player and a legend.
